The Heritage tees off next week with a healthy list of PGA Tour regulars looking to get back in the swing of things in the wake of The Masters. Returning champ Jim Furyk leads a field of golfers with extensive history at The Heritage.

Furyk is at 16-1 Odds while Luke Donald is the favorite at 10-1 in Golf Betting.

Boo Weekley is the most recent two-time winner of the event. Weekley won in back to back years in 2007 and 2008. The event has a notable group of past winners including Arnold Palmer as the inaugural winner in 1969 and Jack Nicklaus in 1975.

The event will take place on one of the nicest courses on the PGA Tour. The Harbor Town Golf Links, located in picturesque Hilton Head, South Carolina, is one of the courses many PGA regulars look forward to returning to every year.

The event is also considered a tune up for the impending Players Championship in May and the million dollar prize for first place is always a major draw for many of the top PGA golfers.

Among the favorites for The Heritage will be Boo Weekley who leads all PGA golfers with an average score of 68.44 over the last 16 rounds of play. Behind Weekley is Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera and Kris Blanks with a scoring average of 68.75 over the last years.

Ricky Barnes is the golfer to watch out of this group. Barnes is returning to form slowly but this course could kick start his season. Barnes has fallen below the PGA average for ball striking but he has become adept at scrambling after making mistakes.

The world’s best golfers will descend on the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles for the Northern Trust Open beginning February 17th. The Northern Trust Open is one of the richest golf tournaments on the PGA Tour with the winner’s share of $1,170,000, according to sports betting news.

Golf Odds for this tournament have not yet been posted.

Last year’s winner Steve Stricker will return to defend his title and look to score another cool million dollar win. Last year Stricker’s toughest opposition came from Luke Donald and Dustin Johnson. Stricker, Donald and Johnson all set up well for the Riviera Country Club and will once again be favorites heading into the tournament.

Also a favorite that must be considered for this year’s event will be Phil Mickelson. Mickelson won the two Northern Trust Opens before Stricker and has returned to form as a great ball striker. Mickelson has shown he knows the intricacies of playing the thinking mans course at the Riviera.

Tiger Woods will return to the site of his first PGA event ever. Tiger played in the event as a 16 year old and believe it or not, he missed the cut after shooting a 72 and a 75. Woods will be looking to get on track for the 2011 season and he can do some damage on this Riviera course.

Fred Couples is the dark horse to win the Northern Trust Open. Couples plays well at Riviera and his third place finish in 2009 can be attributed to his superior ball striking in the tournament. Look for Couples to on the leader board on Sunday.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is always a favorite on the PGA Tour and this year will be no different. Two time winner and defending champion of the event Dustin Johnson is anxious to defend his title in the coveted week-long event which kicks off Monday.

Golf Betting Odds are not yet available for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM.

Johnson will be battling the PGA’s best including newest phenom Johnny Vegas. Vegas has a win and a third place finish in his pocket and he has become the hot golfer to watch early in the PGA season. Vegas is the newest exciting golfer to break into the limelight after winning the Bob Hope Classic. Vegas also challenged Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson in the Torrey Pines event, settling for third place.

Speaking of Mickelson, the big lefty quieted his critics at Torrey Pines by making a gallant effort to bring home the trophy in his home town of San Diego. Mickelson’s shot making and driving ability have made a comeback after slipping in the world rankings towards the end of last season.

Tiger Woods loves to play Pebble Beach and it has been one his courses in which he has performed well in the past. Woods struggled with his swing at Torrey Pines but was eight off the pace heading into the final round. If Woods can tweak his swing he will be a contender at Pebble Beach.

Dustin Johnson is still the favorite heading into the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His long ball striking and his skill on the greens will make him tough to beat.

The PGA Tour gets underway in earnest January 27th with the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Phil Mickelson, a San Diego native, has entered his first tournament of the season as has Tiger Woods. Although Mickelson is the San Diego native, this tournament is owned by Tiger Woods in past years.

Golf Betting Odds have not yet been posted.

Tiger Woods has not been back to Torrey Pines since he captured the US Open title on this track in 2008. Tiger has won six events on Torrey Pines soil. Woods has turned in his best performances in his career at Torrey Pines and this season he is ready to start his season anew. Woods tweeted on Wednesday, “I’ve been working hard on my game, it’s game time hooah!!”

Mickelson ended the 2010 PGA season in a slump and suffering through assorted ailments. With Torrey Pines being in Mickelson’s backyard this is a key moment in Mickelson’s career to recapture his former glory. This event will let everyone know where Phil stands heading into the 2011 season.

With Phil and Tiger taking up the headlines who else has an opportunity to break through at Torrey Pines? Here are just a few notables to track in the Farmers Insurance Open: Kevin Na has been a force to be reckoned with early in the season and is destined to reach the top of the leader board in an event this season. Also Ricky Barnes is another golfer to watch on this weekend along with a resurgent David Duval.

The 2011 PGA Golf season officially begins next week, and there will be as many major champions at the Africa Open as the Tournament of Champions on Maui.

That would be one — each.

British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen had planned to go to Kapalua to begin his PGA Tour season, but has now said the travel might be too much so early in the season so he instead will play in the Africa Open in his native South Africa.

The Africa Open, which is part of the European Tour schedule, also features defending champion Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel.

“I decided not to go and play the two tournaments in Hawaii because that won’t leave me with enough off time before the start of the new season,” Oosthuizen said in a story posted on the European Tour’s website.

That means the only major champion at the Tournament of Champions in Kapalua will be U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell.

This marks the fourth time in the past six years that the PGA Tour’s season opener had only one current major champion, which is mostly due to Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson not playing, and Padraig Harrington taking time off.

Erik Compton, 31, who has twice had his heart transplanted, and Ty Tryon an former teen phenom, made it through to the last stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament on Saturday amongst other players and this a good news for his fans and those who bet on sports.

He finished 7th place playing 72-hole at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach for the second stage qualifier. The 108-final begins in Orlando on the 1st of December where the top 19 will be competing.

Tyron, 26, on the other hand was 13th at a qualifier in Brooksville, Fla tying with another contestant. When he was 17 in 2002 he earned the PGA Tour card by successfully passing through all stages of the qualifying tournament but was unable to maintain it. He has since not returned to the PGA Tour, but going around playing other mini tours in the last couple of years.

Both Compton and Tryon qualified for the U.S Open in June. Tryon finished 80th position tying with another contestant and Compton missed the cut. The competition at Pebble Beach was Tryon’s first appearance at the PGA Tour since 2003.

Doug Barron who has served his one year suspension for failing a drug test ended recently did not make it past the second-stage qualifier close to Houston.

Former tour winners Dicky Pride and Glen Day made it from the Panama City Event. Will Mackenzie an ex winner made it from Brooksville.

In total, six second stage qualifiers were played all over the country this week with a total of about 20 players making it to Q-school finals from each competition. Whoever makes the six-day qualifying finals is sure of a place on the Nationwide Tour.

The top 25 including ties will get PGA TOur Cards for 2010, with the accompanying 50 getting exempt position on the Nationwide Tour.

The WGC-HSBC Champions tournament, the last significant pro golf event until January, takes place this weekend at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China.

The tournament is the final World Golf Championships event of the season.

Last year, the then-No. 1 and No. 2 players in the world, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, playing together in the final group, battled to the end, with Mickelson taking the title.

He shot a three-under 69 in the final round to earn a one-shot win over the hard-charging Ernie Els, who shot a 63 in the final round. Woods was four-over par after eight holes, but managed to come back to shoot a 72, leaving him tied for sixth place.

Of course, much has changed for both players since then, as Woods has gone through personal problems, a winless season, and, most recently, losing the No. 1 world ranking to Lee Westwood on Monday. Westwood is still fighting a leg injury.

Mickelson, who has continued to support his wife and mother in their battles with breast cancer, was diagnosed with a psoriatic arthritis. He said the arthritis “quickly spread from his ankle, finger and wrist to his hips, elbows and shoulders.”

The 40-year-old has won just once since leaving Shanghai with the trophy last year.

Golf Channel has live coverage from midnight to 4 am ET on all four days.

The PGA Tour heads to Florida for the final event of the Fall Series, the Children’s Miracle Network Classic, next week.

The 2009 purse is $5.1 million, with the winner receiving $918,000. The Wyndham Championship is the final regular season tournament for the PGA Tour. The event qualifying round takes place at Forest Oaks Country Club, also in Greensboro, NC on Monday August 16.

Players need to confirm their spot by Friday, August 13 at 5pm. Players may also withdraw anytime before they play their first round, if they chose not to compete.

The current champion is Ryan Moore, who won in 2009, with a score of 19 under par. For the 2010 tournament, the golfing community looking forward to the number 14 ranked golfer in the world, Anthony Kim play. He has the highest rank of any player to enter the tournament, so far. Also, there is speculation that Tiger Woods may participate, although he is not confirmed yet.

There are many events taking place at Sedgefield Country Club in the days before the final tournament begins. There is a youth golf clinic on August 17 and a Pro-Am tournament on August 18. Also on August 17, there is a Kool & the Gang concert to kick off the festivities.

The WGC Bridgestone International will be held August 3rd-8th at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. All PGA Tour golfers and golf gambling news look forward to this event and many of the European golfers make the special trip to play the event.

Tiger Woods is the defending champion of the World Golf Championships Bridgestone International, winning by four strokes over Padraig Harrington and Robert Allenby. This year’s WGC Bridgestone International will include among others, British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen was not slated to play but qualified with his win in the British.

Also coming from across the pond will be Lee Westwood, who has been living at the top of the leader board of late. Westwood continues to run hot, especially in Majors and he will be a great addition to the WGC Bridgestone International.

Other notables coming over from Europe will be: Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia. Of the four, Ian Poulter has the best chance to be around on the last day. Rory McIlroy should be over his disappointing finish to the British Open and could also be a challenger.

Defending champ Tiger Woods may have fallen on hard times at the last three majors but Woods has a chance to make his mark in the WLC Bridgestone International. The event sets up well for Woods and he should be in contention on Sunday.

Another player to watch in this event will be KJ Choi. He’s not intimidated playing with Tiger Woods, he actually enjoys playing with Tiger.

At the American Century Championship, Billy Joe Tolliver won his third title, setting a record with 84 points in the modified Stableford system at the celebrity tournament.

Tolliver said, “I told my caddie last night that I’m not straying from the game plan. I’m hitting the shots I always hit, the same club, the same everything. In this format, especially with a par-5, par-3 and par-5 finish, somebody could get 28 points if they are incredibly lucky, so I had to go make a score.”

At Edgewood Tahoe, the former NFL quarterback eagled the last hole and it had two birdies in his final round. Against the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo, former Atlanta Braves’ pitcher John Smoltz, actor Jack Wagner and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, he finished ahead with 19 points. Tolliver won $125,000 for adding to his 1996 and 2005 titles.

The previous record of 78 was broken by Tolliver’s 84 total points. In 2007, the previous record was set by a former Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback, Chris Chandler.

Elway made double bogey on the last hole, although he had a chance to finish alone in second place. He missed his eagle putt, even though he reached the 546-yard, par-5 16th in two.

Elway said, “I played the best golf I could. I knew he was going to be tough to catch because he wasn’t going to back up as well as he’s been playing. One thing I’ve learned over time is that you can’t make too many things happen. I was just trying to make every second shot I could.”

Rick Rhoden, two-time defending champion scored 23 points to place eighth with a 58 total and rallied to finish among the top 10. In 20 appearances, it is the first time Rhoden has finished outside the top four. Scoring 23 points and finishing in a tie for 22nd, Michael Jordan scored his best round of the tournament. Charles Barkley, the left-handed golfer was not able to avoid finishing last in the 82-player field for the fifth straight year. With -93 points, Barkley concluded play, six fewer than American bobsled gold medalist Steven Holcomb.
