The World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play Championship is one of the most unique and exciting events on the PGA Tour. The event is structured much like the NCAA College Basketball Tournament. 64 golfers are seeded according to their world ranking by the PGA.

PGA Golf odds have not yet been posted for this event.

Each golfer plays heads up against their opponent with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser taking a long plane ride home. The event is set up with brackets and four regions as the golfers play down to a final four and then a championship game.

Tiger Woods has announced he has entered the event; he has won three times and finished second once. Woods last victory came in 2008 over one of this year’s high seeds, Stewart Cink.

Defending champ Ian Poulter is one of the favorites also in the event. Poulter beat Paul Casey in the Accenture Match Play last year. Casey has finished second the last two years of the event and is also a yearly favorite at this point.

Seeding and regional draw are critical in this match play event. The golfer with a high seeding is not necessarily a favorite in this event. Potential match ups for the match play event are Tiger Woods versus Thomas Bjorn, Phil Mickelson versus Brendan Jones and Graeme McDowell versus Heath Slocum.

Potential upset match ups could be Charlie Hoffman upsetting Luke Donald, Bill Haas over Hunter Mahan and can Stewart Cink take down the defending champ Ian Poulter in an upset?

The WGC Bridgestone International will be held August 3rd-8th at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. All PGA Tour golfers and golf gambling news look forward to this event and many of the European golfers make the special trip to play the event.

Tiger Woods is the defending champion of the World Golf Championships Bridgestone International, winning by four strokes over Padraig Harrington and Robert Allenby. This year’s WGC Bridgestone International will include among others, British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen was not slated to play but qualified with his win in the British.

Also coming from across the pond will be Lee Westwood, who has been living at the top of the leader board of late. Westwood continues to run hot, especially in Majors and he will be a great addition to the WGC Bridgestone International.

Other notables coming over from Europe will be: Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia. Of the four, Ian Poulter has the best chance to be around on the last day. Rory McIlroy should be over his disappointing finish to the British Open and could also be a challenger.

Defending champ Tiger Woods may have fallen on hard times at the last three majors but Woods has a chance to make his mark in the WLC Bridgestone International. The event sets up well for Woods and he should be in contention on Sunday.

Another player to watch in this event will be KJ Choi. He’s not intimidated playing with Tiger Woods, he actually enjoys playing with Tiger.

Corey Pavin, American Ryder Cup captain shot a second straight two-under 69 Friday. At the Senior British Open, Pavin share the second-round lead with Bernhard Langer of Germany. Make sure you check out the latest odds for this event at your favorite sportsbook.

Pavin and Langer (71) are one shot ahead of a quartet that includes Jay Haas (69) and Ian Woosnam (67). Both Pavin and Langer have four-under totals of 138.

Pavin looked set to take a commanding lead and he was among the early starters. After hitting his second shot out of bounds, he finished with a double bogey 6 at the 18th.

Later in the day, Langer had to deal with a biting cold wind. Before bogeys on two of the par-3 holes, he also got to 6 under. His tee shot landed in a deep pot bunker, at the short 13th, and then at the 16th he then missed the green, with a 5-iron and was unable to get up and down.

Langer is still looking for his first victory in a senior major, although on the Champions Tour, he has 10 wins in three years.

Langer said, “I could have putted a bit better, the ball did not drop for me like it did in the first round.”

Also tied for second were Americans Larry Mize (70) and Dan Forsman (71).

At St. Andrews last week, Tom Watson missed the cut in his last British Open appearance. For the weekend this time, he had no problem making sure he will be around. To remain 3 over, he a 15-foot birdie putt on the last green for a par 71.

However, in 1963, Bob Charles of New Zealand was the first left-hander to win the British Open. After he shot a 78 to miss the cut, he bid farewell from the tournament. He announced that it was his last round of competitive golf, at the age of 74 and after a career that brought him 64 tournament victories. Unfortunately, for him, at the 18th, he signed off with a double bogey.

Louis Oosthuizen, before the British Open at Saint Andrews this weekend, had attempted to play in seven previous majors. A cut in just one of the seven majors was possible in Louis Oosthuizen attempted to play, which was before July 15, 2010.

On the first day of the British Open, big names, Tiger Woods and John Daly grabbed the headlines, with them, Louis Oosthuizen was right there. On the first day of The Open though, no one paid much attention to Louis Oosthuizen and his -7 score.

At Saint Andrews, day two, no one in the ESPN booth would know how to pronounce Louis Oosthuizen, although everyone knew who he was. Oosthuizen grabbed the lead of The Open and shot a five under with a two-day score of -12.

King Louie or Shrek is what Louis Oosthuizen’s friends refer to him. In a performance that can only be described as “Tiger Like”, he demolished the PGA‘s finest on a Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, he increased his lead to -15 and on Sunday he moved to -16, taming Saint Andrews and winning his first British Open.

Paul Casey never had much of an opportunity to catch Oosthuizen, who made no mistakes, although Casey was Oosthuizen’s closest competitor. To catch Oosthuizen, Casey’s bid was all but over when he shot a seven on the 12th hole. While fellow countryman Lee Westwood finished second, Casey ended up falling to back to third eight shots out.

The 2010 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship will take place the week of July 5 at Oakmont in Oakmont, PA. All the stars of the LPGA will be present to try and tame this famous course.

The only other time a Women’s Open was held at Oakmont was in 1992 when PGA golf odds star, Patty Sheehan was victorious. This time around it’s all about the youth. Many of the stars of women’s golf are young and it will be the first time many of these girls have played this course.

Teeing it up for U.S. Open week are favorites Paula Creamer, Christi Kerr, Morgan Pressel, and Michelle Wie. Many experts think this is the tournament and the week where Michelle Wie establishes her place in women’s golf. She has too much talent not to have won a major.

A foreign invasion usually takes place at the Women’s Open, and this year is no exception. Look for the likes of Se Ri Pak, who is always in the hint at the U.S. Open to make a run at the leaderboard. Others to watch include; Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, and the new number one golfer in the world, Ai Miyazato to be in contention.

The tournament is wide open this year, and it should be an interesting leaderboard. Tickets are going fast, so get yours if you are going to in the area, or want to watch some great golf.

Beginning June 3rd, the PGA Tour will visit Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio for the Memorial Tournament. While the Memorial does not have the name recognition that a tournament such as the Masters does, it is still very important. The most important things to consider about this tournament are the tradition, the purse, and the golfer’s involved.

The Memorial Tournament is all about tradition. It was started by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, who also designed the golf course. Each and every year, former golfers are honored at an induction ceremony.

What the Memorial Tournament lacks in name recognition, it makes up for in award money. This year, the winner gets $1,080,000, and the total purse is $6 million dollars. Due to this, only the top 75 on the money list from the previous year are automatically invited.

As with any sports event, the golfers are the biggest part of the event. Tiger Woods is expected to confirm his participation later this week, and this news should send chills up the spine of every other golfer. To say that Tiger has dominated here is putting it lightly. He has four wins in eleven tries at the Memorial, and won last year, too.

If you are a golf fan, you should certainly tune in to see one of the most tradition-rich tournaments in all of golf. You are guaranteed to see a hard fought battle between the golfers, and seeing the respect paid to former golfers is a great honor as well.

As if the first major tournament of the year isn’t enough to get your juices flowing, add to it the fact that Tiger Woods will be returning to golf after a several month absence. This years Masters figures to be a dramatic one on and off the course.

Practice rounds begin Monday morning, April 5. And Tiger Woods will be giving an interview live on Masters.com at 2:00. Another round of practice rounds will be on Tuesday. When Wednesday rolls around, things will begin to heat up with the par 3 contest, which will be covered on ESPN starting at 3:00.

Thursday brings us to the actual Masters tournament. Tiger Woods will dominate the coverage no matter how well or poorly he plays. It’s a shame for all of the other competitors, but that’s just the way it’s going to be. Tiger is an icon in the sport and is finally returning to golf after his car crash at his home on Thanksgiving of last year.

Last years Masters winner, Angel Cabrera, is again in the field. Other notable former champions entered into this years Masters are Tiger Woods, of course, Zach Johnson, Tom Watson, Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson.

Augusta National Golf Club is a special place that hosts a special tournament every year. Let’s hope that golf is the big story of the week, not one particular golfer.

It may be a little early in the PGA golf season to start thinking about The Masters. The players haven’t even made their way east for the Florida swing yet. I can’t remember a season where there are so many question marks, and many of those revolve around the number 1 player in the world.

Will he or won’t he is the question many are asking. If Tiger Woods plays, and that’s a big if he will be 4-1 odds.

There is a big group right behind Tiger that will go off at 8-1 odds. In this group will be Phil Mickelson, Kenny Perry, and the defending champ Angel Cabrera. Will Cabrera be able to find the magic this year, and can Kenny Perry get back into contention?

Going off at 12-1 odds will be Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, and Geoff Ogilvy.

Maybe worth a shot at 20-1 odds, you can consider giving Chad Campbell, Stephen Ames, and Paul Casey a look. Longer odds fall with Anthony Kim, Padraig Harrington, and Henrik Stenson.

Still a couple months to go before all the greats tee it up at Augusta. One thing is for sure, everyone will be trying to spot a Tiger. If he isn’t there, it’s anyone’s guess who will be the favorite.
