Lee Westwood

Lee John Westwood was born April 24, 1973 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.  He is one of the select few golfers that have won tournaments on every major continent.  He has victories on both the European Tour and PGA Tour.

Westwood’s grandparents bought him a set of golf clubs when he was 13 years old. He became the junior champion of Nottinghamshire only 2 years after he started the sport.  Westwood won his first amateur tournament in 1990 when he won the Peter McEvoy Trophy.   Following the victory in 1990 he won the British Youth Championship and made the decision to go professional.

Westwood took his first professional victory at the Volvo Scandinavian Masters.  He has won 19 events on the European Tour and has won tournaments in Africa, North America, Australia and Asia.  Westwood has had little success in major tournaments but his Official World Golf Ranking peaked at No. 4.  Important finishes in major championships include tying for 6th at the 1999 Masters, taking 3rd in the 2008 US Open, tying for third in the 2009 Open Championship, and tying for third in the 2009 PGA Championship.

Westwood is married to the Daughter of Scottish player Andrew Coltart, Laurae.  They wed in January 1999 and have since had 2 children, Samuel Bevan and Poppy Grace.  Westwood is the creator of the Lee Westwood Academy, a set of 3 day workshops across venues in England.  The Academy is sponsored by Ping, Solarsport, the Co-operative Group and the British Junior Golf Tour.
