At Pebble Creek for the third time over a 16-month period, Dustin Johnson looked like he would win again, as he entered the final round of the U.S. Open. With his five under 66 in the third round, he took a three-stroke lead.
On Sunday, shooting a 7-over-42 in the front nine, this lead the way for Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, to make a run at the title, although, Dustin Johnson blew his chances of winning in the first four holes of the final round.
Graeme McDowell, U.S. Open win with a 3 over 74 made him the first European in 40 years to win the U.S. Open, as he took control of the game after Johnson’s undoing and held on to win. over Frances Gregory Harvey, he won by one shot. with a 75 and a tie, Tiger Woods ended for fourth place. Graeme McDowell is from Ireland.
Els briefly shared the lead and did well in the front nine. with two bogeys and a double bogey, he , however, wiped out on the coastal holes. He ended in third place with a 73.
On the first hole, Phil Mickelson opened the round with a birdie. at the Open, he was hoping to end a career long of disappointments. He was unable to birdie another hole for the rest of the round and he ended with a 73 and tied for fourth place with Tiger Woods.
