Rory McIlroy: U.S. Open Preview
From Northern Ireland, Rory McIlroy is a 21-year-old golfer, who has shot his way up the world rankings. Currently he is the ninth-ranked golfer in the world. He has yet to win a major in the five tournaments he has played in but hopes that will change in June at the US Open at Pebble Beach.
This will be the second US Open for the sports betting star McIlroy. In his first US Open and second career major, McIlroy made a quick impression. After recording scores of 72, 70, and 72 in the first three rounds, McIlroy scored a 68 in the final round to bring him to two over par. For the tenth place, the score was good enough for him to be tied with five. In just his second major, McIlroy placed in the top ten.
McIlroy played in the 2009 Masters, prior to playing in the 2009 US Open. For 20th place, he ended up with a tie.
McIlroy would play in what remains as his best finish in a major, a few months after the 2009 US Open. At the 2009 PGA Championship with Lee Westwood at three under par, he ended up tied for third place. Yang Yong-eun of South Korea ended up winning with a final score of minus 8.
McIlroy will likely make his presence known at the 2010 US Open and he is one of the most promising young talents in the world. He won the Quail Hollow Championship by a four-stroke margin of 2010 Masters champion Phil Mickelson, just a few weeks ago. Look for him to ride that momentum to a successful finish at the US Open.
