PGA Golf – Preview Valero Texas Open
The new TPC San Antonio is the venue for the 2010 Valero Texas Open on May 13, after the event was held the past 15 years at the La Cantera Resort. While now a regular stop on The PGA Tour, The Texas Open has been a regular event for Texans since 1922.
Past winners include Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer, all legend sportsbook favorite. In recent years, veterans like Nick Price and Justin Leonard have gone low in Texas. Iowan Zach Johnson is the two-time defending champ and he now faces the task of going for three in a row on a new and untested course.
Last year, Johnson won a playoff beating James Driscoll on the first extra hole winning $1,098,000 for his efforts.
Bill Haas and Paul Goydos tied for second.
This year with a better date on the schedule, the field of players should be stronger. Zach Johnson will be back looking for his third win in San Antonio, he will be joined by a host of young players and former Texas Open champs Justin Leonard and Eric Axley. The weather should be hot and windy, typical Texas weather. Hitting the ball low and making putts will be every player’s goal for the week. Whoever does that best will win.
