PGA Tour: Vijay Singh – A Legend in the Making

Vijay Singh has secured himself among the elite in the golfing world. He has been as one of the premier golfers on the PGA Tour and has won many tournaments.

Vijay first started golf when he was a young man and grew up in Fiji. He went pro by 1982 and learned golf from his father. Vijay won the Malaysian Open after only two years as a professional golfer. He was accused of cheating during an Asian Tour, the very next year. As a precautionary tactic the Asian Tour suspended him but he denied any foul play.

Vijay would join the PGA Tour in Europe, in 1998 and he would golf with them until 1993 when he joined the US PGA Tour.

His very first major title was won five years after being on the US PGA tour and two years later in 2000, he added first Masters Title to his trophy case.

Around 2003, was the breaking point for Vijay, when his career just really began to take off. He had 9 wins and 2004 was his best season on record. This was a huge achievement for him as he was one of the only six players in the history of the PGA Tour who had won 9 or more wins in a season. He was ranked number one golfer on the planet and he earned over $10 million that season.

Even though 2005 didn’t fare as well but he still played some stellar golf. He continues to rack up wins and is in his forties, but also spends a lot of time running his charity. Overall, Vijay Singh will continue to be a force the older that he gets and has made a great impact on the game of golf.
