2010 PGA: Transitions Championship

For the 2010 Transitions Championship, the PGA Tour heads to Tampa March 18-21. An impressive field will be lead by defending champion Retief Goosen at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook.

Last year, the charges from Brett Quigley and Charles Howell III to win the title for the second time were held off by Goosen. The only two time winners of this event are Goosen and K.J. Choi. This year, about one half of the World’s Top 50 in the offical golf rankings will be in Tampa. That means Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, and Kenny Perry will lead the American charge. Being so close to the Masters, a number of foreign players looking to hone their games before Augusta will be welcomed by the Transitions Championship. Players in Tampa will be Ian Poulter, Geoff Ogilvy, Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia.

Current British Open Champ Stewart Cink, and former Master’s Champ Zach Johnson want to add another title to their resume heading into the spring, and will be priming for Augusta. With Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney, and Ryo Ishikawa all entered the youth will also be served at Innisbrook. One player to look out for could be former #1 David Duval. Duval has been playing better as of late, and likes playing here. What a story that would be.
